Eco-printing workshop at the Orleans Farmers' Market!
Join me Saturday, June 26th from 1-3pm for a special workshop to benefit the Orleans Farmers’ Market.
Uncover a rainbow of natural color in this interactive, hands-on class. Using flowers and leaves from my garden, you’ll create patterns on cotton fabric. We’ll bundle up the fabrics, then steam them; the heat transfers the colors and patterns onto the fibers, creating ethereal designs, explosions of color.
We’ll discuss the basics of natural dyeing: plants from the garden and landscape that can be used, setting up a dye bath, how to shift its color using modifiers, and more. Learn how to prepare fabric with a mordant, ensuring proper colorfastness for your dyed goods. We'll also touch on making inks and pigments from leftover dye baths.
Along with your dyed fabric samples, you’ll leave with detailed instructions and mordant ingredients to create natural color at home.
