Join me in the studio to uncover a rainbow of color from a late summer harvest: sunflowers, coreopsis, goldenrod blossoms, and more. Bundle dye your own bandana, supplied by PWS, with natural colors in this interactive, hands-on class.
Using flowers and leaves from my Cape Cod garden, you'll create a pattern on a cotton voile bandana. We'll roll and bundle up the bandanas, then steam them; the heat transfers the colors and patterns onto the fabric, creating an ethereal design, an explosion of color. Wear your bandana, or hang it as art.
We'll discuss the basics of natural dyeing: plants from the garden that can be used, setting up a dye bath, how to shift its color using modifiers, and more. Learn how to prepare fabric with a mordant, ensuring proper colorfastness for your dyed goods.
Leave with your dyed bandana, sewn by local artist Marie Weber of Emerald Acre, and a booklet with detailed instructions for creating natural dyes at home. Enjoy tea + snacks, as well as a 15% discount in the shop; natural dyeing books, supplies, and ingredients are available for purchase.
