WORKSHOP: Coreopsis tinctoria This native plant is a natural source of beautiful orange color - with possibilities for olive, bronze, and rust. Coreopsis is incredibly easy to grow: drought tolerant, not fussy about soil, and prolific with blooms from early summer through frost. Flowers, leaves, stems, rosettes - all yield vibrant shades of color. It's also an excellent pollinator; plant extra for the bees.
In this class, we’ll talk about growing coreopsis from seed and how to dye with it. Learn about important steps in the natural dyeing process: scouring, mordants, aftercare. Discover techniques for creating designs and modifying colors.
We'll also discuss this plant's historic use and medicinal value.
