In this hands-on workshop, learn the basics of natural dyeing to layer colors and explore patterns. Using the Japanese shibori technique, Itajime - where pieces of wood are used as a resist - we'll create geometric patterns on fabric with multiple plant dyes, including rosemary, avocado, indigo and more.
We'll discuss the basics of natural dyeing: plants from the kitchen + garden that can be used, setting up a dye bath, how to shift its color using modifiers, and more. Learn how to prepare fabric with a mordant, ensuring proper colorfastness for your dyed goods.
Leave with your dyed fabrics and a booklet with detailed instructions for creating natural dyes at home. Enjoy tea + good company, as well as a 15% discount in the shop; natural dyeing books, supplies, and ingredients are available for purchase.
