The moon controls all of the water on and in the earth - pushing and pulling it in a constant, swaying dance. Our ancestors and relatives studied this ebb and flow, charted it to use this water movement to their advantage on the farm. They would plan their seed sowing accordingly, looking closely at what phase and astrological sign the moon was in - was it conducive to planting? To harvesting? To preserving or canning? Earth signs are nurturing, best for seed starting or transplanting. New moons are the most fertile time. Fire signs are not a time for planting, but instead for cultivating soil or splitting firewood.
